TKAM: Chapt. 21-25 Quote

May 26th, 2009

”It should be the thing never to mention unfairness of judging when defeated in a contest.”

I think this quote relates to the book because of Tom Robinson’s court case. It was unfair that he was sentenced to jail just because people rather choose to believe a white man over a black man. It should never be that way. People shouldn’t be judged because of their color but rather the person they truly are. People should be trusted and tell the truth always. Judges can tell when someone is lying, so it shouldn’t matter their religion or race. Everyone should be equal.

In these chapters, the trial ended. Tom Robinson is claimed guilty, gone in jail, and also got shot to death. I feel really sad for him because I believe he was innocent. It wasn’t fair during this trial. It’s particularly useless. I’m really sad and upset by how the jury judged this case. Just because Tom Robinson is African-American, he shouldn’t be judged like that. Plus, Mayella didn’t have a good point on her side of the case. I’m really glad that this right has changed. If not, I don’t think I would be here today. I wonder what Atticus feels. I think he would also be upset since he tried his really best and had a strong point for the case. Also, Tom Robinson should have a right to testify Mayella’s statements. For Tom Robinson’s family, I feel really sorry for them because of the lost and what happened to him. It’s just wrong how racism could get into. It just outcomes unfairness, guilt, and sorrow. I guess based on these chapters, it made me think about what I have today and diversity is spread fairly. It makes me feel fortunate and happy that everyone is now more confortable with others around us; even though, some people might still have think about racism a bit.

These chapters are kind of interesting, more interesting than the other chapters anyway. Some interesting stuff happened in these chapters. For example, Tom Robinson got sent to prison for “raping” those two young girls. I think that it is horrible that he got sent to jail for something that he didn’t do. The only reason they don’t believe him is because he’s african american. I hate when people do that kind of stuff, it’s just not fair and not civil. I remember once when I was littler these girls didn’t want me to join their game because I was white.

Later Jem and Scout find out that Tom Robinson had been shot 17 times and died (they heard from Atticus). I think that really sucks because Tom is an inocent man, in my opinion, and he died for basically nothing! The most intense chapter in this whole book was chapter 24 and some of 25. Those chapters are the most intense because that is when Jem and Scout find out that Tom Robinson had been shot. Also they go and tell Tom’s wife, Helen Robinson, that her husband had been shot and she colapsted and was in total shock. Mucho intense!

TKAM: Chap. 17-20 Initial Post

May 21st, 2009

In these chapters, I get a lot of anxiousness. The reason was because of how the trial was going. I am really amazed how Atticus was making his points and thoughts through the trial. I hope he won this because he has a good chance and his questions were strong. I somehow believe in Atticus for the trial a lot more because the witnesses or evidence for Mayellla’s wasn’t strong and they don’t have proof. They had refused to testify their statements. If I were part of the jury, I would immediately tell Mayella to get examine and solve this trial. It’s getting more and more intense. Somehow the stories is also making me thinking back because one of them is true and one isn’t. It’s really confusing and nerve wrecking. If I were Atticus, I wouldn’t be able to do this trial at all. From handling and family and trial, it’ll be a huge problem for me. Plus, that’s the reason why I can not do debates and why I’m not in law. Anyway, I hope this trial will end happily and successful. I do somewhat have another feeling that everyone is going to be in danger no matter if Atticus won or lose the trial.

TKAM: Chap. 17-20 Quote

May 21st, 2009

“May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human enough hope to make you happy.”

This quote is somehow similar to these chapters because they state about how if you have enough of something, it’ll get you somewhere. During these chapters, Atticus gave out questions and statements that Tom Robinson is innocent at the trial. By Atticus’s words, they give out somewhat evidence and a possible benefit to he’s innocent and didn’t rape Mayella. If he has strong statements, it’s possible for him to win the trial. For example, he stated that why didn’t they get medical tests to prove that Tom Robinson was the victim. So, that’s why I decided to put this quote to resemble these chapters.
